Co-Director, Centers for Educational Equity and Excellence (CE3)
How long have you been at Berkeley?
I have worked on campus for 14 years as a professional staff member, but I also worked on campus part time during my undergrad and master's programs, so it’s been over two decades!
What do you love most about working here?
It’s without a doubt the people (students, staff, and faculty). Being able to work with people that share your values to genuinely care for the community and the work is priceless. Because of my community on campus I am always inspired and filled with so much gratitude.
What's your job?
As a co-director of the Centers for Educational Equity and Excellence (CE3), I am to ensure that our students from systemically marginalized communities have access to holistic counseling and tailored support services. My job often involves strategic partnership, policy analysis, and planning with campus partners, both internal and external.
What's a great day at work look like for you?
A great day would include having time to create and execute new visions and ideas that bring our campus and community together. Sometimes the days can be so administratively heavy, it’s nice to have time to innovate and collaborate with others. Some of my favorite days on campus have been hosting students and families for our campus wide First Generation Student Celebration, Power in Community Day, and coming up next is our campus’ first New Student Move-In Fest.
Where's your favorite place on campus?
I love “The Wall” near the Golden Bear Cafe. It’s the heart of campus and always reminds me of my times during undergrad and Black Wednesday meet ups. As a staff member I love how the tradition has continued and evolved in such a beautiful way.
Fun fact about me:
When I’m not working or with family, I am probably watching some mystery or suspense tv drama to unwind from the day.
